George Watt

Scottish botanist. Studied at the universities at Aberdeen and Glasgow; MD 1873. Professor of botany at the Hugli and Patna Colleges of the University of Calcutta, 1873–84. Scientific and medical officer for the Burma–Manipur Boundary Commission. Reporter on economic products to the Government of India, 1887–1903. Administered the Industrial Museum at Calcutta, 1894–1903. Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. Knighted, 1903.
