Ernst Curtius

German historian and archaeologist. Professor of classical philology, Göttingen, 1855–67. Professor of classical archaeology and director of the Royal Museum, Berlin, from 1868. Manager of the excavations at Olympia, Greece, 1871. Author of a complete history of Greece (1857–67).
