Mary (May) Hartley (1882–1916)
1849/50–1916
Irish novelist. Educated at a convent school; later wrote works critical of middle-class Dublin society and the Catholic Church, particularly the Catholic education system. In 1882, married Walter Noel Hartley (1846–1913), professor of chemistry at the Royal College of Science in Dublin.
