Elisha Kent Kane
1820–57
American physician and Arctic explorer. MD, Pennsylvania, 1842. Surgeon with the US Navy from 1846. Surgeon and official historian on the American expedition to the Arctic to locate traces of the Franklin expedition, 1850–1, and leader of the second expedition, 1853–5. Wrote an account of the second expedition, published in 1856.
