Christian Konrad Sprengel
1750–1816
German botanist. Rector of the Great Lutheran Town School, Spandau, where he taught languages and natural science, 1780–94. Moved to Berlin, where he worked as a private tutor. Published his major work on insect-aided fertilisation of flowers in 1793.
