To St G. J. Mivart   23 April [1870]1

Down. | Beckenham | Kent. S.E.

April 23d

My dear Sir

I write merely one word to thank you very much for so promptly answering my note.—2 I cannot conceive what made me write down in my notes what I did about your opinion, but I saw that it was not to be trusted.— I hope that you will continue your wonderfully laborious & valuable labours on the Primates.—3 Whenever I publish my book I can see that I shall meet with universal disapprobation, if not execration.—4 The truth is hard to gain, however much one may try.—

With many thanks Pray believe me | Yours sincerely | Ch. Darwin
