From John Lubbock   2 November [1868]1

2 Nov

Dear Mr. Darwin

Do you think you could lend us your carriage for the polling day?2

There are now so many voters in Down & Farnboro & Cudham that it would be a great help if you could kindly do so.3

Believe me | Yours most sincerely | John Lubbock

Footnotes

The year is established by the reference to the parliamentary election (see n. 2, below).
Lubbock was one of two Liberal candidates in the western division of Kent in the general election held in November 1868; polling in this division took place on 23 November (The Times, 21 November 1868, p. 7).
Down, Farnborough, and Cudham were parishes in the western division of Kent. The polling place for these voters was the nearby town of Bromley (Post Office directory of the six home counties 1866).
