Darwin Correspondence Project

To Edward Frankland   18 July [1873]1

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

July 18th

My dear Sir

Many thanks, I will collect some fluid at end of September &, gratefully send it to you very early in October.

I will try some of your suggestions about Pepsin, & it is invaluable advice for me; but it is impossible to remove the viscid matter from the glands except in a diluted state.2

Your most truly obliged | Ch Darwin

Footnotes

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from Edward Frankland, 17 July 1873.
See letter from Edward Frankland, 17 July 1873 and n. 2. Frankland had offered to test the digestive fluid of Drosera to see what kind of acid it contained, and advised CD on how to test the fluid for pepsin.

Summary

Agrees to delay sending the fluid [from the glands of Drosera] until early October. Will try suggestion about pepsin. [See 8981.]
