Sir,
I have the honor of transmitting to you herewith a Letter by which the General Order Office at Berlin informs you that His Majesty the King,1 my Gracious Sovereign, has been pleased to confer upon you the Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts, and in which are enclosed the Insignia and the Statute of the Order2
It gives me great satisfaction to be one of the first to congratulate you on the high honor thus conferred upon you, and I avail myself with pleasure of this opportunity to assure you of the most distinguished consideration with which I have the honor to be
