From the Commission générale des Ordres Royaux1   24 January 1868

Sa Majesté le Roi,2 notre Auguste maitre, voulans vous donner une marque éclatante de son estime et de sa haute bienveillance, vous a nommé chevalier de son Ordre pour le mérite dans les sciences et les arts. En vous transmettant, Monsieur, les insignes de cet Ordre nous y ajoutons en même temps un exemplaire de l’acte de fondation du 31. Mai 1842 et un état nominatif des membres actuels de l’Ordre.3

Nous vous engageons aussi de vouloir bien nous accuser réceptation de cet envoi et de remplir le formulair ci-joint.

From the Commission générale des Ordres Royaux1   24 January 1868

His Majesty the King,2 our August master, wishing to give you a splendid sign of his esteem and of his great benevolence, has appointed you knight of his Order of merit in the sciences and arts. In transmitting to you, Sir, the insignias of this Order, we append to it at the same time a copy of the act of foundation of 31 May 1842 and a list of current members of the Order.3

We also request you to be so good as to notify us upon receipt of this consignment and to fill out the attached form.
