Charles Loring Brace

1826–90

 American philanthropist , author , and ethnologist . After studying theology at Yale University, toured Europe, 1850–1. One of the founders of the New York City Children’s Aid Society, 1853, and subsequently director. Published a small number of ethnological treatises.
