Emanuel Bonavia
1826–1908
Maltese medical officer and naturalist. Commissioned as assistant surgeon, Bengal Medical Service, 1857, advancing to brigade surgeon by his retirement in 1885. Superintendent, Lucknow Botanic Gardens. Later president of the Horticultural Society of Delhi. Lived in Worthing, Sussex, during the latter part of his life. Published several books on botany and horticulture.
