Tito Vignoli
1824–1914
Italian anthropologist and psychologist. Studied at the Universities of Pisa and Milan. A positivist, and one of the first supporters in Italy of the theory of evolution by natural selection. Worked on anthropology and comparative animal psychology. Author of Della legge fondamentale dell’intelligenza nel regno animale. Saggio di psicologia comparata (1877), and Mito e scienza (1879). Director of the Natural History Museum of Milan, 1893–1911. Professor of anthropology, Royal Literary and Scientific Academy of Milan, 1894–1910.
