Philippe Edouard Poulletier (Edouard) de Verneuil
1805–73
French geologist and palaeontologist. Studied, in particular, Palaeozoic stratigraphy and fossils. Travelled in Europe, 1835–8. Toured European Russia with Roderick Impey Murchison, 1840–1. Carried out geological studies in Spain, 1849–62. President of the Geological Society of France, 1840, 1853, and 1867.
