Entomologist. Founder and editor of the Entomologist's Annual, 1855–74, and of the Entomologist's Weekly Intelligencer, 1856–61. Secretary to the Ray Society, 1861–72; secretary to the natural history section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, 1864 and 1867–72. Co-founder, Entomologists' Monthly Magazine, 1864. FRS 1867.
