Politician. Brother of the ninth duke of Bedford, Hastings Russell. Granted the rank of a duke’s younger son. Private secretary to Lord John Russell, 1849–54. Liberal MP for Tavistock, 1857–85. Member of the Royal Geographical, Linnean, and Zoological Societies of London, and the Anthropological Institute.
