Traveller. After visiting Constantinople and Cairo, travelled in Abyssinia, 1843–6, publishing a book describing his experiences. Attaché to the embassy at Constantinople, 1850–2. After settling in England, became official assignee in bankruptcy in 1858, first in Exeter then in London. Later, comptroller of the court of bankruptcy until 1884.
