William Francis Patrick Napier

1785–1860

Irish-born soldier, writer and artist. Served in the army in the Peninsular War, of which he wrote a six-volume history. Lieutenant-governor of Guernsey, 1842–7. Promoted to general, 1859. Knighted, 1848.
