Longmans
Publishers. Founded by Thomas Longman (1699–1755), with premises at 14 Ludgate Hill and 38–41 Paternoster Row, London. The name of the firm changed frequently, with alterations in the partnership; it was colloquially known as Longmans. From the 1840s Thomas and William Longman were the senior partners.
