James Lamont, 1st baronet

1828–1913

Scottish landowner, yachtsman, and explorer. Had estates in Scotland and the West Indies. Conducted a number of expeditions to the Arctic and Africa, often sailing in poorly charted waters, and wrote a number of popular travel books. MP for Buteshire, Scotland, 1865–8. Created baronet, 1910. Fellow of the Geological Society of London; fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, 1861–87.
