Lucy Hardcastle
Botanist. Christened as the daughter of William and Lucy Swift, but possibly a natural daughter of Erasmus Darwin's. Married John Hardcastle in Derby in 1792. Mother of Mary, who married Francis Boott in 1820. Ran a school in Derby. Wrote An introduction to the elements of the Linnean system of botany (1830).
