An active member of the Royal Society of London; treasurer and chairman of the executive committee of the Philosophical Club, 1847; Royal Medallist, 1847. Member of the Royal Commission on the Law of Patents, 1864. Appointed to the bench, Court of Common Pleas, 1871. FRS 1840.
