August Emanuel Fürnrohr

1804–61

German natural historian and botanist. Studied to become an apothecary in Munich, Zweibrücken, and Erlangen, 1824–6; practised until 1833. Taught natural history, chemistry, and technology in the newly founded Regensburg district agricultural and technical school, 1834; professor of natural history, 1839. Co-editor, Flora, 1830; editor, 1842. Director, königliche botanische Gesellschaft (Royal Botanical Society), 1846. Author of two textbooks, on natural history and chemistry. Co-author of a topographical natural history of Regensburg, 1838–40. Specialised in local flora, especially mosses, of the Regensburg area.
