1788–1863
Fur-trader and explorer. Commander, with Thomas Simpson, of the Hudson’s Bay Company’s expedition that explored the north-western coast of North America, 1836–9. Retired from the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1842 and settled near Montreal, Canada.
