Arthur Conolly

1807–42?

Captain in the East India Company’s service. Travelled in central Asia, 1829–31, and published an account of his journey. Joined the British envoy’s staff in Afghanistan in 1840. Imprisoned in Bokhara and eventually killed while on a diplomatic mission.
