Jean-Henri Casimir (Jean-Henri) Fabre

1823–1915

French entomologist, teacher, and science writer. Professor of science, Avignon, 1853–70. Between 1879 and 1907 published the series Souvenirs entomologiques, notable for both scientific accuracy and accessible style. Particularly interested in the development of instinct in insects. Wrote textbooks on many scientific disciplines, as well as numerous works of popular science.
