W. & A. K. Johnston
Cartographical publishers. Founded by the brothers William and Alexander Keith Johnston in Edinburgh in 1825. Important works included the National atlas (1843), and the Physical atlas (1848), which illustrated the geology, hydrography, meteorology, botany, zoology, and ethnology of the world. Produced pictorial material for schools from the 1870s, including Johnston’s school astronomical atlas (1877).
