William Campbell Maclean

Military surgeon. MD, Edinburgh, 1833. Joined the Madras army as a medical officer in 1838; residency surgeon at the court of Hyderabad, India, 1844–55; surgeon to the third district of the Madras Presidency, 1857–60; professor of military medicine at the Army Medical School, Fort Pitt, Chatham, Kent, from 1860; Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Hampshire, to 1885. Author of Diseases of tropical climates (1886).
