James Hall Nasmyth

1808–90

Scottish engineer. Son of the artist Alexander Nasmyth. Designer of an industrial steam hammer, first produced in France in 1841 and commonly known as Nasmyth’s hammer. Manufacturer and developer of steam engines and machine tools. Wrote on astronomy.
