Cyrille Pierre Théodore Laplace
1793–1875
French naval officer. Commanded a surveying voyage of Asian and Pacific waters, and circumnavigated the globe aboard La Favorite, 1829–32; defended the work of French missionaries in Tahiti, Hawaii, and California, and collected natural history specimens on the voyage of L’Artémise, 1837–40.
