The year is established by an archivist’s mark indicating that this letter followed the letter to F. S. B. F. de Chaumont, 3 February [1873]. The printed stationery is of a sort that CD used between January 1872 and November 1874.
Chaumont’s note has not been found. Chaumont had provided CD with information on habits for Expression, and may have sent additional information about his youngest daughter, Louise François de Chaumont (see letter to F. S. B. F. de Chaumont, 3 February [1873] and n. 4).
