Hochgeehrter Herr!
Ew.
Wohlgeboren

Most respected Sir!
May Your Honour forgive my being so forward as to send this letter, this letter whose purpose is to ask Your Honour to answer a query.
About two years have passed during which I developed a great partiality for the works of Dr Büchner, Häckel and also your own, namely that on “the origin of species”.2 I have furthermore striven to ensure the dissemination of this great truth in modest circles, and I have every intention of giving a number of public lectures for the same purpose this coming winter also. At the same time, the preoccupation with this topic has led me to my own conclusions, which I am putting together and which, if Your Honour permits me to, I would like to present to you, the great thinker, for assessment.
A favourable reply by Your Honour would make me very glad, and in the hope of receiving such a one, I greet Your Honour
With the greatest respect | Phil. Dr. Alfr. Moschkau
