Dear Mr. Darwin
I send you a bottle containing some fish from Ld. Arthur Russell; he says you will understand all about it; & that he had promised to send the parcel.1 I had hoped to bring it myself, but I must postpone my visit till another day but will not delay to forward this precious bottle—2

The parcel has not been identified but its contents may have related to the discussion of carp in the letter from Arthur Russell, 19 May 1873.
The only reference in Emma Darwin’s diary (DAR 242) to Stanley’s visiting Down was on 15 November 1871.
Stanley was Lady Derby.
