Darwin Correspondence Project

To J. D. Hooker   [28 April 1845]1

Down Bromley Kent

Monday

My dear Hooker

I return your specimens & elegant drawings with many thanks; I truly hope you did not think of making those drawings for my sake; for the information is more copious than I required & the name, which Berkeley has given will do instead of my poor description: I wish I knew the name of the double conical confervoid bodies, which I have figured.—2

I enclose Berkeley’s note, as I have copied all I want: wd you direct my note of thanks to him.

I have been vexed at my stupidity in having mentioned the Galapagos Plants to you at this time, for my Journal comes out in 3 numbers & the Galapagos will be in the last.3

If you have a scored copy of my Journal, with any corrections, I shd be much obliged for the loan of it; but I beg you not to give yourself any trouble; if you do, (as you have done about the confervæ) I must lose the advantage of asking you a few questions.

I am going tomorrow to see my Father at Shrewsbury for 10 days4 & on my return shall set to & finish my Journal.

Ever my dear Hooker | Yours most truly | C. Darwin
