My dear Sir,
I have much pleasure in expressing my high estimation of your great knowledge, as shewn by your various publications, of the comparative anatomy of all the higher animals. I cannot speak with respect to your knowledge of physiology, but as an intimate acquaintance with Structure in all its details is of such manifest importance in this respect, and as you have proved your accurate powers of observation, I cannot doubt that you would be well fitted for the Chair of General & Comparative Physiology of the Royal Veterinary College; and I hope that you may be successful in obtaining it.1
