Flora of Sandwich & Society: it is very imperfect, I could not send it before, as I had some things to add to it. as it is I think it shews positively no relation between the two groups. This fragment of a letter was pinned to the following note, in ink, by CD:Feb. 1845. Hookers list of Society Isd includes about 250 Phænerog excluding grasses, & 270 from Sandwich group. out of these there are only 32 species in common, including no doubt (one by name Convolvulus) Scævola &c) some coral-plants.— At the Soc Isd there 25 gramineæ & at Sandwich 24. & 6 [over ‘5’] in common.— Of Lycopodiæ Soc & Sandwich have each 12 with 5 in common.— (DAR 104: 248). On the verso of CD's note is a table of numbers as summarised above. The date of Hooker's letter must follow that of the letter from CD to Hooker, 22 [January 1845], and is probably before Hooker's departure on his European tour (see Huxley ed. 1918, 1: 177–8). - +
