My dear Uncle Charles—

You will be surprised at receiving a letter from me, but I amwriting to ask a favour of you.—

Would you have any objection to being God-father to our smallchild no 3? it would be very kind of you if you have none, butI know some people do object, for I have received a refusal about it—I hope you won’t mind my asking you, for it really is but a formafter all— I hope you & Aunt Emma are pretty well, I hear ofyou occassionally from the Leith Hill girls—f2 they tell me thatHenrietta is abroad—f3
