My dear Sir
I am sorry you have had so much trouble. I cannot imagine how the sheet could have been lost unless opened by the post office, or unless I sent the sheet by mistake to France or Russia in which case I hope it will be returned & it shall be sent to you.f2
In the meantime I send by this post a corrected revise which I trust will serve your purpose—

- Carus was translating Variation into German (Carus trans. 1868). He had reported that one proof-sheet was missing from the sheets that CD had just sent him (see letter from J. V.
