From J. T. Moggridge   14 June [1866]1

7.a. Eastbourne Terr. | W.

June 14

Dear Mr. Darwin

I should very much like to spend the Sunday with you at Down—2

I shall take the earlier of the two trains you mention, or at any rate try to take it, thus having the later one to rely upon in case of losing the first.

With many thanks believe me | yrs. very sincerely | J. Traherne Moggridge.

Footnotes

The year is established by the date of Moggridge’s visit to Down (see n. 2, below).
The letter inviting Moggridge to Down has not been found; see, however, the letter from J. T. Moggridge, 25 May [1866]. According to Emma Darwin’s diary (DAR 242), Moggridge arrived on 23 June and left on 25 June 1866.

Summary

Will take earlier train to Down.
