Dear Sir

Mr Darwin wishes me to write for him as he is too unwell to be able to write himself. He begs me to thank you for your letter & very kind present of the pamphlet. I am sorry to say that he has been very unwell for 3 months & though he is making slow progress I am afraid it will be long before he can apply himself to his usual pursuits.

I am with his kind remembrances | yours very truly | Emma Darwin
