Please procure for me Agassiz Index Generum— it is a one volume Book & distinct from the Nomenclator.—3

M. Quatrefage is going to send me a book of his through you,4 when it arrives, please send it to 57 Queen Anne St Cavendish Sqe. — Please send there, also, the Index.—5

See letter to Williams and Norgate, 16 January [1860]. There is an entry in CD’s Account book (Down House MS) dated 29 January 1860 that records a payment of £3 11s. 4d. to Williams and Norgate. CD engaged this firm to send presentation copies of Origin abroad.

Agassiz 1848. The work is an alphabetical list of animal names with their first proposers, and forms the second part of the Nomenclator zoologicus (Agassiz 1842). CD’s copy of Agassiz 1848 is in the Darwin Library–CUL.

Probably Quatrefages de Bréau 1859. CD thanked Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Bréau for presenting him with his work on the ‘maladies’ of silkworms in the letter to J. L. A. Quatrefages de Bréau, 30 March [1860]. Quatrefages de Bréau issued a second work with a similar title in 1860. Both books are in the Darwin Library–CUL and are inscribed by the author.

In CD’s Account book (Down House MS), there is a record of a payment on 10 March 1860 of £2 19s. 5d. made out to Williams and Norgate. The address CD gives is that of his brother, Erasmus Alvey Darwin.
