My dear Sir

As this note requires no sort of answer, I send it to say that on considering “ways & means”, I shd be sorry to hear of a Farm at above, fifteen-thousand pounds; & one, like my present one, at 12, or 13, or 14 thousand would suit me very well.—

The money from Ld Powis will, I hear, be paid up on 1st of July; but it can very well lie a little in the Bank until you can hear of something which you can recommend.—

    Edward James Herbert, Earl of Powis, had borrowed £13,000 from CD in November 1849, a continuation of the loan extended to Herbert by Robert Waring Darwin. According to CD's Investment book (Down House MS), the capital was repaid on 1 July 1854.
