Friday Night
Dear Charles.
I was rather expecting you here, and I was glad to find that you had got home it would be so great a Comfort to Emma and I was afraid too that you might become ill at Malvern after all you have gone through. It is indeed quite an inexpressible loss and I feel most deeply for both of you. Poor little thing I keep thinking of her as I last saw her here and that last recollection is very pleasant to me. It is all bitterness to you now, but tender memories will survive and it will not be all loss.
With my kindest love to Emma yours most affectionately | Eras. Darwin
