To James Torbitt 29 September 1880
Down,
Sept. 29, 1880.
My dear Sir
I heartily rejoice at your good news.1 With such success there will soon be a good demand for your new varieties, and all the anxiety which you have so nobly borne will be over. I will let Mr. Farrer hear the result, and ask him to forward it to Mr. Caird.2 I cannot see why some of your new varieties should not endure for a good many years fungus-proof; though I fully subscribe to what you say about the probability of their not enduring for ever.
Again I congratulate you and remain, My dear Sir | Yours sincerely Ch. Darwin
