To James Torbitt 17 March [1880]1
Down,
March 17,
My dear Sir
I write now only one word to acknowledge receipt of letter of 15 and end of MS.2 But you have not yet returned the page with some words not clearly legible and about “berries”.
Can you tell me more definitely what your experiments have cost you?
Did the Bishop of Down, or any of the others, write anything which I could quote.3 As soon as I get your answer I will draw up my statement which, however, I must somehow make brief. In the autumn you can have more money advanced certainly up to £100 and almost certainly up to £150.4
In Haste | Yours — — | C. Darwin.
