To J. D. Hooker [8 November 1847]1
[Down]
Monday
My dear Hooker
I am very unwell & incapable of doing anything. I do hope I have not inconvenienced you.— I was so unwell all yesterday, that I was rejoicing you were not here; for it would have been a bitter mortification to me to have had you here & not enjoyed your last day.
I shall not now see you. Farewell & God bless you—
Your affectionate friend | C. Darwin
I will write to you in India
I must add my farewell & hearty good wishes to you. It has been a great disappointment to Charles not to be well today & see you. Now we must look forward to your return
very sincerely yours | E. Darwin
