My dear Sir

I must trouble you with a few lines to thank you for sending me your very interesting essay on Insectivorous Plants, & for the excellent resumé of my observations. But beyond every thing else I must express my cordial thanks for the highly honourable manner in which you speak of my works, & which has gratified me much.1

With much respect | I remain, my dear Sir. | yours very faithfully | Charles Darwin

Footnotes

The interesting essay may have been an anonymous review of Insectivorous plants in Revue scientifique de la France et de l’étranger, 27 May 1876, pp. 505–13. There is a copy in the Darwin Pamphlet Collection–CUL. The review may have been written by Emile Alglave, as he was a correspondent of CD’s and an editor of the Revue.
