I beg leave to return my very sincere thanks to the members of the Nat. Soc. & Club of Northampton for the honour which they have done me by electing me as a member.1 I hope that the Socy may long flourish & continue to spread a love of the natural Sciences in the neighbourhood.

Druce founded the Northamptonshire Natural History Society and Field Club in March 1876 and invited CD to be an honorary member before the opening meeting held on 21 April 1876 (Druce 1918, pp. 134–5, and Wake 1952, pp. 40–1). Druce’s letter to CD has not been found.
