Hochgeehrter Herr!
In dem grossen Werk von Abbildungen aegyptischer Alterthümer von Lepsius fand ich, als ich einige Durchzeichnungen für meinen Mann machte, Bilder verschiedener Hunde- und Rinderrassen in demjenigen Theile, welcher das alte Reich bis zur XII. Dynastie begreift.2
Ich glaubte es könne für Sie von Intresse sein, dass schon in einer so frühen Zeit, so abweichende, entwickelte und mit den heutigen so übereinstimmende Hunderassen sich vorfinden, und obgleich es wahrscheinlich, dass diese Thatsachen Ihnen schon bekannt, so konnte ich mir doch nicht das Vergnügen versagen Ihnen eine Durchzeichnung derselben zu senden.
Die mangelhafte Ausführung der ganz genauen Durchzeichnung bitte ich Sie mit meiner Ungeübtheit im Zeichnen zu entschuldigen.

When copying, for my husband, some drawings in the great work of illustrations of Egyptian antiquities by Lepsius, I found images of various dog and cattle breeds in that part of the book which comprises the ancient empire up to the XII. dynasty.2
I thought it could be of interest to you that even at so early a time, such divergent, developed dog breeds, so similar to today’s breeds, are to be found, and although this probably is already known to you, I could not deprive myself of the pleasure of sending you a tracing of them.
I beg you to excuse the imperfect quality of the tracing, which is due to my inexperience in drawing.
