Darwin Correspondence Project

From R. F. Cooke   29 April 1869

50A, Albemarle Street, London, W.

April 29 1869

My dear Sir

I suppose the enclosed letter is correct & that you wish us to supply a set of the Electrotypes of the work on Orchids, at as reasonable a price as we can?1

Yours faithfully | Robt. Cooke

C. Darwin Esq

Footnotes

The enclosure has not been found. John Murray published CD’s Orchids in 1862. No other English-language edition was published until 1877. The letter probably concerns the projected French translation of Orchids (see letter from R. F. Cooke, 22 February 1869).

Bibliography

Orchids: On the various contrivances by which British and foreign orchids are fertilised by insects, and on the good effects of intercrossing. By Charles Darwin. London: John Murray. 1862.

Summary

Confirms a request by CD that Murray’s supply electrotypes of Orchids at most reasonable possible price.
